Call for Registrations: “My Nigeria – Our Nigeria” National Debate Competition

Yiaga Africa announces the call for registrations for the “My Nigeria – Our Nigeria” national debate competition. The call invites debating councils and students from accredited Nigerian universities to register to participate in the debate competition. 

The “My Nigeria – Our Nigeria” debate competition is a Yiaga Africa initiative with support from the Open Society Foundations (OSF) and in partnership with the National University Commission (NUC) and All Nigerian University Debating Championship (ANUDC). 

Background and Eligibility

The “My Nigeria – Our Nigeria” Debate competition will provide a unique platform for students across universities in Nigeria to articulate their vision for the Nigeria of their dreams.  It is designed to encourage participants to engage in insightful debates on crucial topics related to citizenship, national values, governance, and politics to harness citizens’ inputs into governance and nation-building. It is also a tool for promoting critical thinking, advocacy and visioning amongst students of tertiary institutions.

The debate will be held at the zonal level, with winners at the zonal round invited to the grand finale in Abuja. The final debate round will be broadcast live on TV and social media platforms. The winners of the debate competition will be awarded with various prizes.

This initiative stands as a platform for students to contribute actively to the discourse on the future of Nigeria, symbolizing the essence of critical engagement and visionary leadership. Embrace the opportunity to be a part of this transformative journey and join in shaping the future narrative of Nigeria.
