Background

In our vision to be the Yiaga Africa of the future, we seek an exceptional candidate to support our Procurement and Logistics Department as a Senior Procurement and Logistics Officer. 

The Senior Procurement and Logistics Officer will be responsible for effective logistics coordination as well as sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing vendor relationships to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services.

The position is for one year initially, subject to renewal based on performance and funding availability. The post holder would be expected to work 40 hours a week. The position has a competitive salary as obtainable in the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate & provide input to the preparation of Yiaga Africa’s annual procurement plan together with the corresponding work plans & schedules.
  • Participate in market surveys & supplier assessments for the procurement of goods, services & works for Yiaga Africa’s activities implementation.
  • Facilitate the execution of procurement tasks such as drafting of bid documents/requests for quotations, bid evaluation process, correspondences & contract documents, etc.
  • Support the implementation of Yiaga Africa’s procurement activities in compliance with the established procurement procedures & guidelines.
  • Ensure the documentation of all procurement-related transactions.
  • Update & maintain the supplier database, contract register & supplier evaluation records
  • Ensures that Vendors’/contractors’ performance conforms with agreed contractual obligations.
  • Develops, maintains, and implements an operating manual to deliver the target benefits and financial savings for the organization.
  • Proactively seeks to reduce the overall cost for the organization by conducting value-for-money analysis for goods, including quotation exercises and alternative sourcing arrangements to identify cost reduction areas.
  • Update & maintain the procurement tracking sheet showing the updated status of procurements & regularly disseminate to management to assist the management decisions.
  • Maintain lessons learned & support capacity building of the team by sharing procurement-related knowledge & best practices.
  • Other Responsibilities as Assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in procurement & / or supply chain management or equivalent discipline is required.
  • Professional certification by an internationally recognized procurement certifying authority (eg: CIPS) is required.    
  • International certifications such as Prince 2 is desirable.
  •  Minimum of 5 years of work experience, including in procurement-related areas, is required.
  •  Procurement experience with a Non-Profit Organization is desirable.
  •  Competency in the use of technology related to Procurement activities is required.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and other software applications, e.g. Excel, Word, Visio or PowerPoint is desirable.
  • Experience in the use of procurement modules in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is desirable.
  •  Ability to plan, organize, manage & implement work assignments, juggle competing demands & work under pressure of frequent & tight deadlines.
  •  Demonstrated ability to apply good judgment & decision-making skills.
  •  Strong interpersonal skills & ability to establish & maintain effective partnerships & working relations with people in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity & respect for diversity.
  •  Proven ability to recognize potential market opportunities & challenges that may affect the operations of Yiaga Africa.
  •  Capacity for persuasive communication, consensus building & obtaining commitments from clients/partners & Yiaga Africa personnel.

Language Requirements: 

Fluency in written and spoken English. Proficiency in French and/or any other language will be a plus.
