Yiaga Africa, through its Watching The Vote (WTV) initiative, is closely monitoring the Ondo State governorship election using its proven Process and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT) methodology. The initiative has deployed 300 stationary observers across 300 randomly selected polling units and 24 roving observers to ensure independent verification of election results. In addition to observing voting and counting processes, Yiaga Africa is also monitoring the results collation at both the local and state levels to promote transparency and electoral integrity. In its preliminary statement, Yiaga Africa reports a peaceful start to election day, with the timely arrival of materials and proper deployment of key resources, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). However, concerns have been raised about vote buying, obstruction of observers, and other irregularities that could undermine the election’s credibility. Yiaga Africa calls on all stakeholders – INEC, security agencies, political parties, and voters, to collaborate to ensure the election remains peaceful, transparent, and free from electoral malpractices. Read our full mid-day situational statement, which includes comprehensive observations and preliminary recommendations.
