Yiaga Africa has unveiled findings from its first National Voting Intentions Survey, conducted in December 2025, revealing strong voter enthusiasm for the 2027 general elections. According to the survey, 77% of Nigerians intend to vote, underscoring citizens’ commitment to democratic participation. However, security concerns remain a major barrier, with 42% of respondents citing fear of violence as a deterrent.
The survey highlights that security, candidate quality, and economic conditions are the top factors shaping voter choices, while trust in INEC remains fragile, particularly in southern regions. It also reveals a communication gap on electoral reforms, with most Nigerians unaware of recent changes despite their potential to boost confidence in the process.
Yiaga Africa calls on electoral stakeholders—including INEC, security agencies, political parties, civil society, and the media—to act on these insights by prioritizing security, transparency, and voter engagement to ensure credible elections in 2027.
