Paul James is a results-driven international affairs, elections and electoral systems expert with over 17 years of experience. He has extensive experience working on governance, elections and civil society development initiatives. His interests includes among others capacity building, movement building, electoral integrity, economic justice and social accountability.
Paul is highly skilled in research, program design, program management, institutional capacity development, service delivery, budget tracking, accountability, process improvement, institutional capacity development, advocacy, community mobilization, evidence-based programming, database management and data analysis among others.
Paul has actively participated in over 30 election observation missions both within and outside Nigeria with working experience in over 10 African countries. Through these missions, he has supported capacity-building initiatives, policy reviews and led advocacy efforts to deepen understanding of the electoral process.
Paul also has extensive experience in designing training programs and facilitating workshops, he has conducted over 350 training sessions across Nigeria, Uganda, Liberia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Ukraine.
At Yiaga Africa, he has managed the training programmes that have trained and deployed over 9,000 citizen observers to observe the electoral and governance processes since 2016, as well as other interventionist programs.
Paul is highly interested in supporting skills transfer and development initiatives.
Paul has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
