Following the successful conduct of the just concluded 2022 Ekiti and Osun State Election, Yiaga Africa is returned to Ekiti and Osun for a one-day debriefing meeting with State Focal Points (SFPs) and Local Ggovernment Area (LGA) Supervisors to appraise the project and for participants to share experiences and lessons learnt from the recent election.
LGA Supervisors who also served as Long Term observers shared the success stories, challenges, lessons learnt and opportunities to improve citizens participation as Yiaga Africa prepares to observe the 2023 General Elections.
Yiaga Africa’s Senior Program Officer, Anthonia Onda appreciates citizen observers for their role in the successful deployment of the Parallel Vote Tabulation in Ekiti and Osun 2022 Governorship election.
State Focal Points for both states commended the effort of Supervisors in recruiting and managing Polling unit observers and ensuring observers deployed to assigned polling units to observe on election day.
LGA Supervisor speaks on the credibility of the Watching The Vote in their Local Government Areas and how Parallel Vote Tabulation is boosting citizens confidence in the process.
As a Long-Term Observer, the project also exposed Supervisors to critical election stakeholders like the electoral Commission, Police, community leaders amongst others.
According to the LGA Supervisors, timely and accurate information on the electoral process has to a large extent helped in countering fake news during the Ekiti and Osun Governorship election.
Long Term Observers successfully recruited 500 Polling Unit Observers for each state which ensured accurate and timely dissemination of information during the Ekiti and Osun Governorship.
