YIAGA AFRICA, a non-partisan Civil Society Organization (CSO) committed to deepening electoral integrity and citizens’ participation in elections in Africa has commenced its long term pre election observation (PREO) towards the 2019 General Election under its Watching The Vote (WTV) election project. YIAGA AFRICA’s WTV has dutifully observed the pre-election environment and electoral process in the off-cycle Governorship elections in the period leading to the 2019 general elections. WTV is the largest citizens’ observation movement committed to providing accurate and timely information on the conduct of the electoral process. WTV has deployed 774 trained Long Term Observers (LTOs) in all the Local Government Areas (LGAs) across Nigeria.
This report is the first of six reports to be issued by the organization and will reflect our findings in the pre-election period up till the Presidential Election in 2019. The period covered by this report is 9th to 22nd November 2018 during which 1,563 number of reports were received from our observers. In this stage of the pre election report, we reported findings with regards to issues of the preparedness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), voter education and information activities, political campaign activities, inclusion of women, persons living with disability (PWD) and youths, as well as issues of pre election violence.
