Call for Applications – Yiaga Africa Community Organizing Training (Lagos)

Yiaga Africa announces the call for applications from young women civic actors, young women politicians in political parties, and female activists in community organizing in Lagos State. The Community Organizing Training (COT) is part of Yiaga Africa’s Community Organizing Institute designed to build young leaders to create change in their communities. The Community Organizing Training will cover specialized topics on political and community organizing, effective policy advocacy, non-violent change, scenario building, power mapping, building, and maintaining networks and coalitions, gender mainstreaming, and online organizing. The Training will also strengthen the technical capacities of young women and women-led organizations in community engagement and promotion of democratic values and principles in Lagos state.

Who should apply?

The Organizing Training is designed for young women who are inspired to create change in their communities or who are members of civil society, community-based organizations, or registered political parties in Lagos State.

The training will equip selected participants with the requisite political organizing and advocacy skills needed to engage political party officials and increase youth and women participation in the 2023 General Elections. Applications will be based on merit but will also consider the representation of various interest groups, the disability community, and political parties with representation in the state. 40 young women will be selected for this season of the COT.

At the end of the training, the participants will be tasked to actively lead initiatives and campaigns targeted at promoting political participation of young women, citizens' participation in the electoral process and advocacies promoting change in respective communities using the skills learned from the Organizing Training.


The Candidate must be;

  • Between the ages of 18 and 30 by the time of application
  • Fluent in English
  • Must be resident in Lagos state for at least 2 years
  • Must reside in any of the 20 local governments in Lagos state
  • Interested in socio-economic and political issues in Nigeria
  • Be a member of a civil society organization, community-based organization, or registered     political party, or is a young woman who is inspired to create change
  • Have the potential to be a positive role model
  • Committed to attending all sessions of the Community Organizing Training
  • This application is open to Females only.

Yiaga Africa will cover the costs (transportation, accommodation, and feeding) of participation associated with attending the Training.
