Role: Strategic Plan Development Consultant

Background
Yiaga Africa is a civic hub of Change Makers, promoting democratic governance, human rights and citizens’ participation. It is a non-profit organisation vested with the responsibilities of conducting in-depth research, policy advocacy and capacity development. To this end, Yiaga Africa continues to be the “think and do tank” for governance and development, electoral reforms and legislative engagements
Flowing from Yiaga Africa’s over one decade of existence and strategic interventions, Yiaga Africa is in the process of developing a Strategic Plan (SP) for the next 5 years of operation, presenting a revitalised statement of Yiaga Africa’s key goals and objectives.
Objective
The objective of this consultancy is to assist Yiaga Africa in developing a five-year strategic plan, ensuring the organisation fulfils its mandated objectives stipulated as per the current and future development sector organisational environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all Democracy & Governance programs, including elections, legislative advocacy, digital democracy, and civic participation.
- Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects to ensure alignment with organisational goals and donor requirements.
- Manage program budgets, work plans, and performance metrics.
- Supervise a team of program officers and ensure quality delivery through mentoring and support.
- Build partnerships with key stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society, and development partners.
- Represent Yiaga Africa at high-level meetings, forums, and media engagements.
- Oversee the development and dissemination of research, policy briefs, and knowledge products related to democracy and governance.
- Support resource mobilisation through proposal development and donor engagement.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external reporting obligations.
- Innovate new program approaches in response to emerging democratic trends and challenges.
Scope of Services
While working closely with Yiaga Africa’s internal planning team, the consultant will be expected to provide the following services
- Undertake stakeholder mapping and analysis
- Undertake a situational analysis of Yiaga Africa’s operations to date
- Review the institutional capacity, organisational processes and decision-making structure to recommend required changes to improve effectiveness.
- Through a consultative process and application of appropriate tools of analysis, identify focus areas: the thrust areas, long-term goals, strategic objectives, key result areas and KPIs for Yiaga Africa.
- Propose a strategy/strategies for achieving the long-term goals, strategic objectives and key results
- Propose monitoring and evaluating strategies and mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of the Strategic Plan
Qualification/Consultancy Requirements:
- At least a Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Public Management/ Administration, and other related fields
- Ten years and above professional experience in strategic planning and management consultancy, including within a non-governmental context;
- Prior work experience in non-governmental and Civil Society organisations and change management is an added advantage
- In-depth knowledge of Nigeria’s and Africa’s social, political, and other environments in which Yiaga Africa operates is an added advantage
- Proven excellent communication, facilitation and analytical skills
- Knowledge of the Donor Community and Operations is an advantage
Timeline: The Consultancy is for a period of 4 months. September to December 2025
