Call for Applications: Yiaga Africa Community Organising Incubator Fund

Yiaga Africa invites members of its community of organisers and young activists to apply for the Community Organising Incubator Fund. The Community Organizing Incubator Fund is launched to support democracy projects designed by civic actors in the alumni community to promote the right to protest, digital rights and election reforms in West Africa. The fund will support projects that facilitate co-creation and implementation across different cohorts of the alumni community. The Incubator Fund is part of efforts to strengthen the community of young civic activists and community organisers that Yiaga Africa has trained and mobilised over the years. This application is open to former graduates of Yiaga Africa’s community of organisers in Nigeria and across West Africa.

Yiaga Africa will issue a grant of $5,000 respectively to five teams selected from the applications received from members of its community of organisers to implement innovative projects and campaigns. The community organising alumni are encouraged to present innovative projects and campaigns that explore any of the following areas: electoral reform, citizen engagement, democratic renewal, state and society relations, and sustainable development.

The Community Organising Incubator is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), Washington DC with an aim to promote the institutional development of civic groups, evolve a culture of co-creation and co-implementation amongst civic activists and strengthen the alumni community of the Youth Organisation School and the Community Organising Institute.

Since 2015, Yiaga Africa, through its Youth Organising School (YOS) and Community Organising Institute (COI) has developed special training modules to build a new generation of community organisers across West Africa with the capacity to drive social change and transformation. The school/institute combines the theory and practice of organising in building the capacity of young activists, youth organisation leaders, and young leaders.

The Community Organising Incubator will prioritise applications for innovative projects and campaigns that are result-oriented, show demonstrable impact as well as promote learning amongst teams. Alumni are highly encouraged to collaborate and work as a team when applying.
