RESEARCH Assistant

Job description

The Research Assistant will be directly responsible to support research on the project and work with team members to ensure that the project research remains of high standard and quality  at YIAGA’s Center for Legislative Engagement . He/she will support the development of research plans for research activities, including research instruments, sampling design, budget. He/She shall ensure high quality control of research findings and results. The Assistant will also provide support in the analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data, reporting and dissemination of research findings both internally and externally reports in order to assist the project team and partners to draw insight from the data that will be useful in the design and implementation of activities.

Key Qualifications/skills

  • Possess a bachelor degree inLaw,statistics, development studies, Social Science courses or related fields
  • Minimum of at least five (1) year of experience(added advantage) inResearch ;
  • Ability to work closely with non-research teams in applying research findings to outputs.
  • Basic Knowledge and skills of writing reports and brief documents
  • Sound analytical and research skills
  • Advanced computer skills in Excel, Word processing, Database management, or otherresearch tools.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Self-motivated and ability to work without close supervision

The YIAGA Centre for Legislative Engagement (YIAGA-CLE) is a think-tank established to promote the development of the legislature in Africa through innovative research, capacity development and public engagement. The goal of the Centre is to ensure the legislature is capacitated to discharge its legislative functions in compliance with democratic principles and standards. The Centre provides innovative and cutting-edge interventions to address these gaps in the Legislature.

Job description

The primary responsibility of the CLE Media Officer is to ensure YIAGA’s CLE projects receives robust media coverage across the diverse traditional and new media platforms. He/she is tasked with coordinating project media activities in both traditional and social media platforms. He/she prepares and reviews press releases, tracks YIAGA CLE media activities, coordinates media briefs and project media activities. The media officer is tasked with fostering relationships with media outlets and personnel on behalf of YIAGA. The post also entails managing external communication for YIAGA – this primarily entails designing and dissemination of information about YIAGA, its projects and position on critical issues to the public. His/her role also entails developing a media and communications strategy and plan for the CLE project, communication protocols and coordinating implementation and compliance. Added roles will include preparation and dissemination of YIAGA newsletters, editing of YIAGA publications to be disseminated to the public as well as developing other materials and publications on CLE project.

Key Qualifications/skills

  • Bachelor’s in Mass communication, journalism, public relations, social media or related field
  • Requisite certification in journalism or media and communications
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in the field of journalism or communications
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • An excellent working knowledge of basic IT tools, social media and all relevant applications relating to communications(Proven Experience of cinematography is an added advantage)
  • Sound knowledge of local and international media landscape
  • Self-motivated and innovative
  • Ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines

MONITORING AND EVALUATION OFFICER

Position: MONITORING AND EVALUATION OFFICER

Job description

The M&E officer will be directly responsible for monitoring and evaluating YIAGA’s Center for Legislative Engagement programs. The officer will be responsible for regular data collection, analysis and reporting on project outcomes and results.  He/she will ensure programs are implemented in line with YIAGA’s donor/project commitments. The officer will also provide technical support on M & E to the program during program planning, budgeting and implementation. In addition, he/she shall provide support in preparing regular programmatic performance reports

 

Key Qualifications/skills

  • Possess a bachelor degree in Statistics, development studies, social studies or related or its equivalent experience with a formal qualification of monitoring and evaluation.
  • Minimum of at least five (2) years of experience(added advantage) in programme monitoring and evaluation;
  • Understanding of the current M&E trends and especially M&E systems in development organizations
  • Sound analytical and research skills
  • Advanced computer skills in Excel, Word processing, Database management, or other statistical packages
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Self-motivated and ability to work without close supervision
