The Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth & Advancement (YIAGA) is a civil society organization committed to the promotion of democratic governance, human rights, accountability and youth participation. YIAGA is driven by its core vision of being a pacesetter organization advancing democracy, human rights and youth participation in Africa. This strategy is a product of extensive research and consultations with YIAGA team members and her partners. This document serves as a guide for YIAGA in her effort to deepen democratic development and youth participation in Africa. The strategy is for a five-year period (2016 – 2020).. However, the document will be reviewed after the first two years of implementation. In line with YIAGA’s policy, an assessment on the implementation of the strategy shall be conducted annually. This strategy will be monitored and evaluated based on YIAGA’s monitoring and evaluation framework developed in line with best standards for program evaluation.
Based on her reviewed organizational structure, YIAGA is organized into four departments; Administration and Finance, Programs, Research and Media & Communications. Each department is further compartmentalized into units to enhance efficiency and qualitative service delivery. In furtherance of her vision,YIAGA has five core thematic program areas; Youth, Elections and electoral reforms, Legislative engagement, Constitutional reform and Accountability & Justice. This strategy highlights the strategic objectives and outcomes of each thematic program component. This strategy will be monitored and evaluated by the monitoring and evaluation team. Furthermore, YIAGA shall undertake periodic external evaluation of its programs.
Admittedly, YIAGA is a youth-led organization and its primary focus is youth, however its program focus is not limited to youth. It spans other vulnerable groups and thematic issues on democracy and development. YIAGA recognises the youth cohort as a heterogeneous group hence its categorization into sub-groups or priority target groups like young women, youth with disabilities, rural youth, out of school youth, unemployed youth, youth in conflict, illiterate youth and youth in diaspora. Geographically, the strategy focuses on Africa. However, the primary focus will be on West Africa with special focus on Nigeria.
The Program Manager is the custodian of the program strategy. He/she will coordinate its implementation in collaboration with other departmental heads. Senior Program Officers will lead each program component with requisite academic skills, attitude, competence and experience in project management. The implementation of the strategy will be undertaken in phases for the purposes of ensuring optimum results and effective utilization of available human and financial resources.
