The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has revealed that over 13,000 personnel would be deployed to provide security during the Saturday, April 9th FCT Area Council elections.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Danta Walima made this known during a briefing of accredited observers and party agents for the FCT polls held by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We are ready and committed to peaceful and non-violent elections in the FCT. Apart from the 13,000 officers mopped up for the polls, we will deploy other officers from neighboring states to ensure adequate security during and after the elections.”
“The security of INEC officials, including the ad-hoc staff, is of great importance to us. To that end, we have held series of consultative meetings with all stakeholders ahead of the election”, Walima said.
ACP Walima also stated that the Nigerian Police has made available help lines citizens can call in the case of emergency.
“We assure citizens that there will be enough manpower at all the polling units in the FCT to maintain law and order. In the case of emergency or breach of law and order, citizens should call the police on 08061581938, 07057337653, 08032003913 or 08028940883,” Walima added.
